Yoga is a study of consciousness, a practice of self-discovery and mastery, a way of living one's life.

Yoga encompasses more than physical poses. Poses, or asanas, make up one piece of the puzzle.
Asanas are a gateway, an arena, a battleground, a training, an expression for what is happening internally.
We are physical beings, meaning we have a body; however, we are more than just our body -- we have a mind, too.
Because the mind is housed in the body, these two entities are very connected and interrelated.
What happens in the mind is manifested in the body.
What manifests in the body is an expression of what is happening in the mind.

The body is a tool that we use to understand the mind. By moving, opening, and strengthening our body during an asana practice we also move, open, and strengthen the mind. That's how connected everything is!

The mind is elusive; it's intangible, hard to really grasp. When we start talking about the mind -- trying to define it or master it -- it's confusing and challenging.
Any time we are learning a new skill, we are presented with difficulties that must be overcome to develop proficiency.
Yoga is no different. It takes courage and dedication.

Practicing yoga teaches us skills and provides us with tools that we can use in our day to day lives to avoid getting stressed out, angry, frustrated, or experiencing any sort of suffering. Not to say that once you begin a yoga practice you'll never have a bad day. As long as we're living, we're going to experience trials and tribulations that test us. But, as a result of your yoga practice, you will have access to a large tool box that will help you process, integrate, and move through any difficult life experiences.

There are many physical, mental, and emotional benefits we reap from a regular
, grounded, and integrative yoga practice.
By "regular" I mean consistent. By "grounded" I mean rooted in traditional, holistic teachings. By "integrative" I mean encompassing mind, body, and soul -- viewing and treating the individual as a whole entity versus simply a physical body.

One important layer is BREATH. Learning how to breathe well exercises our entire respiratory system and calms the nervous system and improves function of the cardiovascular system. Taking deep, controlled breaths helps oxygenate the entire body. This teaches the body to be more efficient with the amount of oxygen in the system and helps regulate and synchronize the heart beat leading to improved cardio function. Breathing well also provides more oxygen to the brain allowing it to remain functioning at an optimum level. Mental clarity and focus are important for all ages whether it's a child in school, and adult in the workspace, or an elder who is trying to remain independently functional.

More Benefits Include:
  • Stress Reduction
  • Relaxation
  • More Efficient Functioning of All Body Systems
  • Ability to Concentrate and Be Present
  • Release of Unconscious Habits, Fears, and Blocks
  • Sense of Inner Peace, Stability, and Joy
  • Healthy Glow
